Why We Can't Wait for Jade Bird's New Record

British singer-songwriter Jade Bird may be just 23 years of age, but the artist displays a maturity well beyond her years in her music.

A true breath of fresh air, Bird's music transcends genre and touches upon so many themes and topics. Bird had already been touted as an artist to watch, and her reputation only continued to grow following the release of her self-titled debut album in 2019, which proved to be a huge success. Following this album, Bird became widely recognised as not just one of the most exciting artists to watch in the future, but also an extremely well-respected and leading songwriters of her generation.

Bird released her first new music since her first album towards the end of 2020. 'Headstart' is the first single from Bird's new record - which is set to be released this year - and while news of the new track will have brought joy and smiles to her fans' faces, Bird herself admitted that she was wary of coming across naive. This is due to the song being quite cathartic and upbeat, while in contrast, the last year has been challenging for people to say the least.

But such is Bird's maturity, she had simply hoped this new track would bring a bit of relief to people, as well as the chance to momentarily escape from the realities of the world currently.

The thought that went into the release and timing of 'Headstart' underlines precisely why she is continuing to receive such rave reviews. The song acted as a message to the music community that Bird is back, and that this song would lay the foundations for a more positive year in 2021. Equally, however, the single also touches upon community, which Bird has emphasised. It is the way in which Bird was able to take a number of themes and convey her message in such a simple and effective manner which is what really stood out.

Following 'Headstart', Bird released 'Houdini', which stood in complete contrast to the former track. But what remained constant was the intelligence in her songwriting and the meaning behind the single. Houdini refers to famous magician and illusionist Harry Houdini, with Bird using his name as a metaphor to allude to the disappearance of certain figures in her life in the past.

Houdini shows a more vulnerable side to Bird, with the track initially starting out in the simplest form - just her pure vocals with an acoustic guitar. But the track builds gradually throughout, taking her listeners and fans on a real journey.

Most recently, Bird released 'Open up the Heavens' - a track which reaffirmed in case anyone had any doubts whatsoever that Bird's upcoming album promises to be absolutely sensational. Described as her 'favourite' track on the record, Bird didn't actually end up recording the song until two days before she was meant to fly home from recording in Nashville.

A more powerful track, 'Open up the Heavens' was recorded at the iconic RCA Studios, with Bird once again working alongside producer Dave Cobb. The mere fact that Bird recorded the track just two days before she was due to fly home once again highlights the maturity of this fine artist.

Whether it be her songwriting, or her effortless vocal range, or her maturity and message that she conveys in each and every track, Bird is destined for great things within the music industry, and we absolutely cannot wait for the new record.
